After many difficulties had been overcome and funds raised throughout the country, such a building was eventually constructed in the neo-Renaissance style, and opened in 1883. Typical of the National Theatre is the fact that, since its opening, it has staged productions in all genres - opera, drama and ballet. Opera: The death of Hippodamy - Zdenek Fibich, Tosca and La Boheme - Giacomo Puccini, Libuse and The Bartered Bride - Bedrich Smetana.
