Prague Pubs
JAMA
V Jame 7, Prague 1 Daily: 11-01

Metro: Mustek (Vaclavske Namesti exit) Tram: Vodickova (# 3, 9, 14, 24)
American run, friendly pub with good food and fairly good prices. They have a mixed clientele and a good brunch menu at the weekends. Happy hours and good service.
OSCARS
Tynsky Dvur 1, Prague 1 Daily 11-01

Metro: Staromestska
In the newly re-opened Ungelt Square just behind the Tyn church on Old Town Square, this ex-pat and visitors favourite is now as much a sports bar as a pub. Lots of tv screens at the bar satisfy those who can't get enough football (American or European), while the tables are for food. Not great value but a fairly popular place anyway
GULU GULU
Betlemske Namesti 8, Prague 1. Mon-Thur: 12-24: Fri-Sat: 10-03: Sun:10-02

Metro and Tram: Narodni trida (# 6, 9, 18, 22)
Another popular meeting place for ex-pats and visitors this cafe/bar is usually busy at all times of day. For lunch and coffees during the day and for good, cheap beers at night. It's a young, friendly crowd and the setting is perfect - not far from the Charles Bridge in Bethlehem Square (Betlemske Namesti).
SCARLETT O'HARA'S IRISH PUB
Mostecka 21, Prague 1 Open daily 12-24

Metro: Malostranska Tram: Malostranske Namesti (# 12, 22)
This is one of the latest additions to Prague's Irish pubs and the recipe is the same as before. A few Irish accents behid the bar Guinness for sale along with Irish cider and old Guinness adverts hanging on the walls. Happy hours and live sporting events give you a few excuses for checking this place out - and after all it's not far from the Charles Bridge.
MALONES IRISH PUB
U Obecniho dvora 4, Prague 1 Su-Th 12-01, Fr-Sa 12-02

Metro: Staromestska
Once again it's the wooden, haphazard decor that gives away the 'Irishness' of this pub. That and the bloomers hanging from the roof. It is warm and welcoming though and the there's a good range of beers. The food is big burgers, steaks and they usually have a vegetarian option.
JAMES JOYCE IRISH PUB
Liliova 10, Prague 1 Daily 10:30-0:30

Metro: Staromestska
The first of many Irish bars in Prague - this cozy hostelry is still very popular with the ex-pat business community. Wooden, haphazard decor and friendly service with choices of cider (rare in Prague), Irish and Czech beers and good wholesome 'Irish' style cooking (ie. lots of steaks, pies and spuds) help to take the sting out of the prices (which are still cheaper than a real Irish pub).
CHAPEAU ROUGE
Jakubska 2, Prague 1 Daily 16-05

Metro and Tram: Namesti Republiky (# 5, 14, 26)
Open for most of the night and then sometimes for after parties til noon Chapeau Rouge has an always buzzing crowd with DJ's now spinning the tunes - thankfully leaving the barmen to pull beers and look cool. The young, lively, multi-national hordes can sometimes get to be too much, but if you're looking to party this is a good place to start or finish.
JO'S BAR
Malostranske namesti 7, Prague 1 Daily 11-05

Metro: Malostranska Tram: Malastranske Namesti (# 12, 22)
One of the oldest ex-pat bars in Prague this one remains a firm favourite with Americans living in Prague. They offer up dance music, live music and mexican food which can be washed down with good beers.
U MALEHO GLENA
Karmelitska 23, Prague 1 Daily 10-02

Metro: Malostranska Tram: Malostranske Namesti (#12, 22)
"At little Glens" is a popular venue for local bands and especially jazz bands. Music is usually from 9 pm but this place is also a decent pub with good, hot food available. It's a fairly mixed crowd of ex-pats and locals and prices aren't too bad considering it's just round the corner from Malostranke Namesti and the Charle Bridge.
LA CASA BLU
Kozi 15 Prague 1 Daily 16-24

Metro: Staromestska
There's Spanish/Mexican theme in this recent addition to Prague's foreign bars and a nice setting in the old town combined with good prices and friendly service.
MARQUIS DE SADE
Templova 8, Prague 1 Daily 11-03

Metro and Tram: Namesti Republiky (# 5, 14, 26)
Set in an increasingly popular part of Prague this late night bar is popular with ex-pats and there's often live singers and bands. The beer isn't great but the prices aren't too bad, it's usually lively and the service is pleasant. Cocktails and a wide range of spirits are available along with a non-Czech food menu.
AKROPOLIS
Kubelikova 27, Prague 3 (not far from the TV tower you can see all over the city) Mo-Sa 16-02, Su 16-24

Tram: Lipanska (# 5, 9, 26) Metro: Jiriho z Podebrad assport and

A young and fashionable Czech pub with decor that can only be described as interesting. It's connected to the club next door but this joint (being the operative word) is for beer and fried cheese and all the other wonders of pub life. The beer flows very freely and only the large number of patrons slows down the service.

Prague Dance Clubs
ROXY
Dlouha 33, Prague 1 Daily 20-04

Metro: Namesti Republiky Tram: Dlouha Trida (# 5, 14, 26)
An ever popular night spot which has everything from live bands to dance Djs - it's a rough and ready but usually good value. A good mix of locals and foreigners the Roxy often manages minor coups in getting some famous alternative rock and dance outfits to play. If there is a gig here it's likely to be cheaper admission than more regular venues.
RADOST FX
Belehradska 120, Prague 2 Daily 21-05

Metro and Tram: I.P. Pavlova (# 4, 6, 11, 16, 22)
The night club part of Radost is full of trendy young Czechs and foreigners - different theme nights mean you should check out whats on before you go but at the weekend it's a good bet that dancing will be happening all night long. They often have guest Djs and the whole club decor has just been re-designed. The cafe serves food until the club stops so it's an all nighter's paradise
KLUB LAVKA
Novotneho lavka 1, Prague 1 Daily: non-stop

Metro: Staromestska
The location of this club means that it can't help but draw a lively, tourist heavy crowd alongside young, trendy Czechs who want to meet those tourists. At the Old Town end of the Charles bridge with a great terrace in the summer months this is a nightclub, cafe, restaurant and bar. The music is hardly the cutting edge of dance music but it is party music.

MUSIC PARK
Francouzska 4, Prague 2 Tues-Thur 21-5: Fri-Sat 21-06: Su 21-5

Metro and Tram: I.P.Pavlova (# 4, 6, 11, 16, 22)
This is the cheesier end of the Czech nightclub scene and although it's usually full it's really more of a disco than a dance club, if you see what I mean. Plenty of people who may still be at secondary school and others who are wearing suits and trying to impress. All sorts of glitter balls and corny lighting make this a peculiar place indeed. Don't expect the latest techno sounds.
FROMIN
Vaclavske namesti 21, Prague 1 Wed-Thur 23-02: Fri-Sat 23-04

Metro: Mustek (Vaclavske Namesti exit) Tram: Vaclavske Namesti (# 3, 9, 14, 24)

Trendy people in a trendy venue - this is the type of place where you wont get in if you don't fit the bill. Set in the top storey of the building which also hold the Krone supermarket on Wenceslas Square, you get into this club via the lift beside the supermarket. It's a little pricey but all the beautiful people seem to go and there's a restaurant up there too.

Prague Live Music
Akropolis
Kubelikova 27, Praha 3 (not far from the TV tower you can see all over the city) Mo-Sa 16-02, Su 16-24

Tram: Lipanska (# 5, 9, 26) Metro: Jiriho z Podebrad
Next door to the pub this part of the Akropolis empire is for live bands - and they regularly have a wide range of musical styles and international acts performing here. It's fairly inexpensive, there's usually a young, local crowd and the live hall is, unusually for Prague, a smoke free zone.
Lucerna
Lucerna building, Prague 1 Entrance from Vodickova street and Wensleslas Square

Metro: Mustek/Muzeum Tram: Vodickova (# 3, 9, 14, 24)
This venue is situated in one of the basement ballrooms of the wonderful Lucerna complex just off Wenceslas Square. The acts performing here cover a wide range of musical tastes while steering safely clear of anything too alternative or modern. Revival bands, rock'n'roll, Czech rock bands and generally fun music is the order of the day - and all at very reasonable prices. This building is owned by President Havels family who are currently in dispute about its future.
Malostranska beseda
Malostranske namesti 21, Prague 1 Daily 11-22
An eclectic range of performers, reasonable prices and a wonderful location make this a very popular live venue. Right on Malostranske Namesti, just up from the Charles Bridge, Beseda used to be this area's Town Hall. It's a small but friendly place with everything from country to jazz to rock bands performing in one of the two small rooms.
Roxy
Dlouha 33, Prague 1 Club open: 20-05
The Roxy is a popular, grungy nightclub which is often buzzing with the sound of the best local or imported Djs - but it's also a cheap live venue which attracts some big 'alternative' names. Now that some of Prague's other night clubs have come and gone The Roxy is still going strong with it's mixture of music, film and art presentations.

Jazz Clubs
AghaRTA JAZZ CENTRUM
Krakovska 5, Prague 1 Mo-Fr 17-01, Sa-Su 19-01

Metro and Tram: Muzeum (#11)
To a certain extent, this is everything you might expect from a Prague jazz club - small. cozy and intimate with good regular bands and a good sound. It is, however, relatively expensive and has become more of a favourite for visitors and foreigners than the locals. Bands usually start at 9 and they usually run the gamut of the jazz sound.
REDUTA JAZZ CLUB
Narodni 20, Prague 1 Daily 9-24

Metro and Tram: Narodni Trida (# 6, 9, 18, 22)

This club constantly reminds you that a certain W. Clinton did a turn here on a visit to Prague and as one of the most famous jazz clubs in Prague, the prices are a little prohibitive. It's got all the ingredients for a good jazz cellar and the range of bands and styles is impressive. Usually the bands start at 9:30 and they are some of the best around.

U STARE PANI
Michalska 9, Prague 1 Daily 19-03

Metro: Mustek/Staromestska

One of the newest jazz clubs in the city, this spot has great acoustics and is host to the best on the local jazz scene. "At The Old Lady's" is well worth the cover charge (150 Kc) which is slightly higher than in most other clubs but if you're only going to visit one jazz venue in Prague maybe this should be the one. Music usually starts at around 9pm.

JAZZ CLUB ZELEZNA
Zelezna 16, Prague 1 Daily 15-24

Metro: Mustek

This club is in the Old Town and can be found down a passage just off Zelezna street, but it's no tourist trap and is a discreet, cozy, reasonably priced cellar. Good music, good sound and a good atmosphere make this a popular club where you're more likely to find a local crowd. There's a small new and used CD shop on the premises too - giving you another reason to check out this friendly venue.

METROPOLITAN JAZZ CLUB
Jungmanova 12, Prague 1 Mo-Fr 11-01, Sa-Su 19-01

Metro: MustekVery small, this cellar has limited space but a nice, traditional atmosphere with what is normally an older set of customers. There is a house band and a range of Dixieland and swing bands when the house band isn't playing (usually 9pm start). The music is good quality but you need to arrive early to secure a seat.
